নিজস্ব প্রতিবেদক : নির্বাচন কমিশনার ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মোঃ আহসান হাবিব খান (অবঃ) বলেন, একটি গণতান্ত্রিক দেশে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় হলো নির্বাচন।
সারাদেশের মানুষ, রাজনৈতিক দলসহ সবার চাওয়া একটি সুষ্ঠু নির্বাচন। আর সাংবিধানিকভাবে এই গুরুদায়িত্ব নির্বাচন কমিশনের ওপর ন্যস্ত।
আমরা শপথ নেয়ার পর থেকে আমাদের একমাত্র লক্ষ্য একটি অবাধ, সুষ্ঠু ও নিরপেক্ষ নির্বাচন জাতিকে উপহার দেয়া। আমাদের আন্তরিক প্রচেষ্টা রয়েছে একটি অংশগ্রহণমূলক ও গ্রহণযোগ্য নির্বাচন করার।
তিনি ২৭ নভেম্বর (সোমবার) সকালে খুলনা জেলা প্রশাসকের সম্মেলনকক্ষে দ্বাদশ জাতীয় সংসদ সাধারণ নির্বাচন-২০২৪ উপলক্ষ্যে আয়োজিত মতবিনিময় সভায় প্রধান অতিথির বক্তৃতায় এসকল কথা বলেন।
প্রধান অতিথির বক্তৃতাকালে নির্বাচন সংশ্লিষ্টদের উদ্দেশ্যে কমিশনার আরও বলেন, আপনাদের মনে রাখতে হবে আপনারা সবাই প্রজাতন্ত্রের কর্মচারী। নির্বাচন কমিশনের প্রত্যাশা সকলে যেন তাদের ওপর অর্পিত দায়িত্ব শতভাগ নিরপেক্ষ হয়ে পালন করে। কখনও দলীয় মনোভাব পোষণ করা যাবে না বা রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতাকর্মীদের দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হওয়া যাবে না।
আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনীর সদস্যরা কখনও অতিউৎসাহী হয়ে এমন কোন আচরণ করবেন না, যাতে আপনাদের নিরপেক্ষতা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন ওঠে এবং নির্বাচন কমিশনের ভাবমূূর্তি নষ্ট হয়।
নির্বাচন কমিশনের দেয়া নীতিমালা অনুসরণ করে খবর সংগ্রহের জন্য গণমাধ্যমকর্মীরা দেশব্যাপী কর্মরত থাকেন। তারা নির্বাচনী এলাকার এবং বিভিন্ন ভোটকেন্দ্রের সংবাদ সংগ্রহ করে ইলেক্ট্রনিক ও প্রিন্ট মিডিয়ায় প্রচার করেন। তাদের কাজে যাতে বাধা সৃষ্টি না হয় সে ব্যাপারে নিশ্চিত করবেন।
খুলনার বিভাগীয় কমিশনার মোঃ হেলাল মাহমুদ শরীফের সভাপতিত্বে মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশ কমিশনার মোঃ মোজাম্মেল হক, রেঞ্জ ডিআইজি মোঃ মঈনুল হক, বিজিবি ও কোস্টগার্ডের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তা এবং আসন্ন জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে যশোর, সাতক্ষীরা, নড়াইল, বাগেরহাট ও খুলনা জেলার রিটার্নিং অফিসার, পুলিশ সুপার, সহকারী রিটার্নিং অফিসার, আঞ্চলিক নির্বাচন কর্মকর্তা, সিনিয়র/জেলা নির্বাচন কর্মকর্তাসহ আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনীর সদস্যরা মতবিনিময় সভায় অংশগ্রহণ করেন। মতবিনিময় সভা শেষে নির্বাচন কমিশনার গণমাধ্যমকর্মীদের ব্রিফ করেন।
